A 120 minute symposium looking at our duties as doctors and how recognising and finding mistakes and improve services and drive change. Ms. McLaughlin begins by looking at duty of care and medical negligence. Next Dr. Stuart McLennan will examine the barriers that exist to error reporting and the impact of errors on staff. Dr. McLennan is based in Switzerland and has conducted many large studies looking this fascinating and difficult topic. He will be followed by Dr. Aidan Fowler, one of the UKs leading experts on quality improvement, looking at how we find errors and then use them to improve services and drive change, The session will be concluded by Dr. Mike Roddis, a former trust medical director who now runs his own medical investigations firm and supports both doctors and trusts during performance and capability hearings, who will focus on acknowledging mistakes and moving on both professionally and personally.
