The responsibilities of the anaesthesiologist are no longer restricted to the first 24 postoperative hours. It has become obvious that optimal pain treatment may have beneficial consequences in the recovery of the parturient, the development of chronic pain while causing minimal impact on the neonate receiving breast feeding. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery has been introduced many years ago but mainly focusing on bowel surgery. The present session will discuss the influence of post C-section pain treatment on ERAS, chronicisation of acute pain and effects for the breast fed neonate. This session will be joint with subcommittee 8.
